General Information

Times are tough economically and affecting the employment of Ideas for Work at Homemany. When things of this sort happen, people start looking for other ways of making money to replace or accompany the present earnings. Here we will discuss ways to make money at home. We will include ideas, which may generate a little extra funds and potential employment opportunities.

Yard or Garage Sales

While this idea may not generate an income to replace a job, it can generate a few extra bucks. I personally have held yard sales that generated over $100.00. Of course, it cannot be guaranteed all sales of this type will produce this amount of money; it will at least put a few extra dollars in your pocket. Here are the basic steps for having a yard or garage sale.

Step 1: Clean House

Here we are not talking about your basic cleaning. When we say clean house we mean put away your cleaners and rags and search for things that are no longer needed. These items can be just about anything, from those knick-knacks you have sitting around you no longer want, to kitchen items or even old clothes. This is also a good way to get rid of your children’s extra toys.  Put everything into a box or several if needed.

Step 2: Set a Date and Advertise

The next step is easy, decide on a date you would like to have your sale and get the word out to “potential customers.”  Most of the sales of this type in my city are held on the weekend, usually a Saturday starting around 7 to 8 am. Of course, you will also have to make a decision on where to hold your sale. This could be in your yard, garage or anywhere where you would be allowed to set up a table or tables to place your items. There are several options for advertisement. This can be handled through a local newspaper or simply designing a flyer and posting around the neighborhood.

Step 3: Getting Ready

Now that you have the items, you want to get rid of, the date set and advertisement is complete, there are a few steps to getting ready for your sale. You will need change for your customers, tables for your items and to have your items priced.

Pricing your items is really the most time consuming of all tasks besides actually having your sale. This requires taking all items one by one and deciding what price you would like to sell the item. Remember when completing this step the object is to make a little extra money but also to get rid of as many items as possible. For this reason, you would want to price the items low. I have even held yard sales that we called “make me an offer.” For this particular yard sale I did not price items and let the customers pick the price, if I thought it was too low I would simply tell them and offer them another price. Once these steps are completed, you are ready to have your sale.

Childcare

Another way of making money at home is Childcare. Babysitting is not just for teenagers any longer. If you are good with children, this may be an option. You may keep children of friends while they work or go out for a night on the town. As well as run an ad specifying the hours you are available. Be careful not to have too many children in your care at one time on a regular basis. You may find yourself running an at home daycare, which may require you to meet certain qualifications from the local government agencies. If you are up for the challenges, home daycare could possibly be another option. If childcare does not seem to sound appealing, you may look towards Craig’s List or EBay.

Craig’s List and EBay

Craig’s List and EBay are not just for businesses, the everyday person can sell one or multiple items on these websites. All you really need to be able to make money using this idea is an item and an internet connection. Simply list your item(s) on the site and wait for them to sell. Once sold, the customer can pick the item up or have it shipped to them after payment of course. While most sections of Craig’s List are free to list items for sale, EBay does charge a percentage of the selling price for the use of the site as well as a small listing fee. These sites also carry the potential of providing a regular source of extra income.

Work at Home Job

If you are looking for something to supply you with a little more than just a little extra cash, you may want to consider a work at home job. Some companies will hire people who telecommute (work at home). These positions are just like a regular job. The only difference is that the tasks are completed at home instead of the office. The jobs should not cost money to apply and may require testing and or several interviews.

When looking for a job, be careful of the many frauds, which exist on the internet. Check the company out thoroughly before committing to any type of work. You may check the Better Business Bureau as well as run a simple search for information on the company.

Conclusion

The ideas included in this article are very basic steps to be able to make money from home. While some of these may produce just a little extra money, most may present an avenue for supplying an income. When considering making money out of the comfort of your home, all you really need is an idea and the ability to make it real.
